All safety scores are assigned a number between 1 and 100 (1 being the safest). Safetipin
Platforms supported
:
Android, iOS
Safetipin is a personal safety app that help you to take safer decisions, based on the safety score of an area. Get alerts when you are in an unsafe location. As long as the app is running in the background, it checks if you have entered an unsafe location. You will receive an alert and can choose to invite friends or family to track you. You can also view alternate routes from one place to another, and select the safest route. It will then transfer control to Google maps so you can reach your destination safely. Planning to go out for the evening? Check how safe a neighborhood is, by touching the place on the map. You will see the safety score, for that area. You can see why it is safe or unsafe as well. Safetipin calculates the safety score of a place based on 9 parameters, and your contribution helps the app continuously update safety scores.
NOTE
: I like the concept but it doesn’t yet seem to have caught traction and only has safety information for select cities in five countries.

U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories
Platforms supported
:
Web
I somewhat hesitate to list this resource since I think they are overly fearful of the world and issue travel warnings for places that don’t merit them. Spend too much time on this site and you’ll likely think the whole world should be avoided. Still, it has its merits. Be aware that an alert is different than a warning. Pay especial attention to the latter as your insurance company may not cover any incident that occurs in relation to a warning (especially emergency evacuation).
